How To Get back to the desktop without minimizing all of your open programs:

Windows 2000 installs an icon on your taskbar.  This icon looks like a desktop with a pad of paper and a pencil on it.  Clicking this icon, allows you to quickly access the items on your desktop like My Computer, the Recycle Bin and any icons.
