Type of Novell CNA Certification for your computer career:

Vendor.

Background:

Not too many years ago, Novell's CNE was the most sought after networking certification around. A CNE was what every networking wannabe wanted.

The CNE is a top certification. However, the Novell CNA certification, for Certified Novell Administrator, is a first step. The CNA certifies that someone is capable of carrying out basic and routine administrative tasks associated with a particular kinds of Novell software.

Worth it?

Standard disclaimer:

Whether or not any certification is "worth it" is an individual decision. You alone must decide what your career goals and needs are.

Look at certifications from a cost/benefit or Return On Investment (ROI) basis. If they help you get a better paying job or make more money at your current job, they are obviously "worth it."

The problem is, there is no real way of measuring how much you can expect your income to go up as a result of any given certification. It also depends on non-related job search skills such as how well you network.

The Novell CNA certification is available for 4 different kinds of Novell software products:

You choose which you need. If you are serious about your Novell networking career, get at least both NetWare 5 and intraNetWare. I would ignore the GroupWise programs unless your employer is using it.

Each one of these CNA certifications has one test. Pass the test and you are a CNA for that particular program.
