Standard disclaimer: Whether or not any certification is "worth it" is an individual decision. You alone must decide what your career goals and needs are. Look at certifications from a cost/benefit or Return On Investment (ROI) basis. If they help you get a better paying job or make more money at your current job, they are obviously "worth it." The problem is, there is no real way of measuring how much you can expect your income to go up as a result of any given certification. It also depends on non-related job search skills such as how well you network. |
XML is a new technology, and I'm sure that most conventional businesses have never heard of it, although it is growing in certain industry groups such as the chemical industry. I don't recall ever seeing classes given in it. This is probably the only certification in XML currently available, and IBM just put this one up in December 1999.
Not only that, but where they usually tell you to take courses, they only list books (which are generally available) for you to study before taking the IBM XML certification.
XML is the future of the Internet. If you are going into e-commerce on your computer job or you want to show you're on the cutting edge, this is worth the test as long as it costs a reasonable (say about $150) amount. I couldn't find any test prices listed.

IBM XML certification is the only XML certification now available for your computer career.
