Q.
I would like to delete an old version of a document
right away after saving it with a new name; however,
when I try to delete the old file, why do I get an
error?
A. Word offers basic file maintenance
functions, such as delete, rename and copy files,
through the Open dialog box. If you have used the Save
As command to give the document a new file name, you
cannot delete the old file from within Word without
first closing the newly saved file. Even though the new
file is saved, and there are two files, the old one and
the new one, Word still has information in its memory
relating to the old file. You must close the new file
first. Simply close the file then reopen the Open dialog
box in Word. You can now delete the old file without an
error!
